Studs Are Still A Good Idea

The current trail conditions offer an interesting juxtaposition. On one hand, the bare frozen ground provides some of the best grip possible, for any tire size, but on the other hand, that magical hero dirt is interspersed with many glistening ribbons of ice, particularly on the Home Loop.

Other loops, that hadn’t been packed for fat bikes, will be significantly better, but be advised, there is still a substantial amount of ice on the ski trail, and Burbrook Road. Also, the lower crossing of the waterfall on the Ridge is currently an impasse; be prepared for a hike-a-bike uphill at Hickman’s Corner.

With what looks like another week of misery in the forecast, these conditions surely won’t last for long, but if you can brave the cold, this weekend is bound to be epic!

Happy Trails!
