Laps for Leah
@ the 6h festival on August 26, 2023

During the 6-Hour Festival this year, participants and club members will have the opportunity to donate for each lap completed as part of a fundraiser called Laps for Leah. Participants will have a race plate indicating their participation, and a bell will be rung at every lap. Who is Leah?
Meet Leah
Leah is 11 years old. She is a member of MTB Kingston and is a very active young lady who enjoys figure skating, hiking and mountain biking.
On October 11, 2022, Leah was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her leg. (same Cancer as Terry Fox). Although she is very brave, the journey to recovery has been difficult. Leah had to have her leg amputated at the knee and underwent a rotationplasty surgery. She has completed many rounds of chemotherapy.
Fortunately, Leah completed her last round of chemo the week of August 8, 2023, and things are looking up for her. She has been fitted with a prosthetic and learning how to adapt to her new way of life.
Funds raised will be donated to the family to support them with the many expenses they have encountered (such as many visits to SickKids in Toronto), the loss of income, as well as any equipment that is not OHIP covered to help improve Leah’s quality of life (she plans on being back on a bike and skates in the near future).
We are also adding a kids race loop that will be about 1k in length; this will run from 5-6pm. Kids will be able to complete as many laps as possible and can also get sponsored by their friends and family members for every lap completed to donate to the fundraiser.
There is no obligation for riders to participate but we hope you will consider it. For those of you who wish to donate but are unavailable to be at the 6 Hour this year, there is a GoFund me account set up.
Leah will be in attendance with her family at the 6-Hour event- feel free to come say hello.
