While the trails are in beautiful shape, it is important to remain aware of this potential hazard. Several juvenile wild parsnip are starting to grow along the edge of the trail at the south end of the “Christmas Trees” section on the second half of Home Loop. This is about 100-200 metres north of the Demo Loop merge.
For those unfamiliar with this plant, it is the punchy little brother to Giant Hogweed. It can be seen standing several metres tall, along the side of the 401, with wide yellow clusters of flowers. When its nectar comes in contact with human skin, it can cause a severe phytophotodermatitis.
Our trail crew will work to remove these plants as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, please ride with caution.
